DALLAS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL
CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSE

Defendant Had More Than 700 Videos of Child Pornography on his Computer

DALLAS
— Tyler John Korzinek, 24, of Dallas, pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon before U.S. District Judge Jane J. Boyle to one count of possessing child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas. If the Court accepts the plea agreement between the government and Korzinek, the parties agree that the appropriate term of imprisonment is 120 months. In addition, Korzinek, who remains on bond, faces up to a lifetime of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for May 24, 2012, before Judge Boyle.

According to documents filed in the case, in September 2011, a special agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), acting in an undercover capacity investigating distribution of child pornography, identified a computer that was using a peer-to-peer program to share images of child pornography. In October 2011, ICE HSI special agents executed a search warrant at Korzinek’s home and seized a computer that contained the videos and images of child pornography that had been sent to the undercover agent.

According to the factual resume, Korzinek told special agents that he had been downloading child pornography from the Internet and that he had been viewing child pornography since he was in high school. A preliminary forensic exam that was conducted on Korzinek’s computer revealed more than 700 videos of child pornography, with some depicting bondage and other sadistic acts involving minors.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. ICE HSI is in charge of the investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Sparks.
