Text Version of Audio - AUSA Kathryn Warma on Potential Human cost of Botnet
"The conduct in which Christopher Maxwell engaged was deadly serious. The consequences of that conduct were potentially deadly as well. We know that in Seattle we were fortunate that a hospital that was attacked, had the technological resources, the commitment, the preparedness to disasters to prevent significant consequence to human life. We don't know that that is true in all parts of the world. We know that the botnet that Mr. Maxwell created had an impact around the world, and hopefully in none of those countries were there mortal effects as a result of that botnet. We believe that the sentence that was handed down by Judge Pechman today does send a strong message of deterrence to other would- be hackers. We know that they will receive that message quickly. We hope that it will prevent similar conduct in the future."
