Survivor Benefits

I believe it is good moral sense to include the partners of gay and lesbian families in survivor benefits. There are many religious belief systems in this great country of ours and although some are not supportive of these families, others are. Still, that is not the point really. The fact is that while these relationships do not have the same legal status, they do meet all the qualities of the truest esseence of family. They are loving, nurturing, supportive and in many cases quite long lasting. As such, the pain, anguish and loss is no less. To argue against survivor support for these poor people is to insult the heroism of the gay and lesbian people who died attempting to help others with this crisis. Let us not play God and determine whose suffering is more valid. Instead, let us seize this moment to show the world that our greatest strengths are not only in our military or government, but in our collective will to do what is right. Compassion and support for ALL suffering Americans would send the right message.

God Bless ALL Americans.
