Dear Mr. Zwick,

I am a 19 year old art student in Brooklyn. I saw the Towers Fall on September 11th. It was a numbing experience. Later that day, as my friends and I were desperately searching for a place to donate blood, we passed in front of the Brooklyn Bridge. It felt like someone had knocked the wind out of me. There were people, as far as the eye could see, streaming across all lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge. They were all covered in dust and ashes, and some had blood on their clothes. They all looked confussed and defeated. It was then when the reality of it hit me, This Really Did Happen. Not only did it happen, but it happened to all people from every walk of life. Not just Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Homosexuals, Chinese, but it happened to everyone.

Now when I ride the subway I constantly see missing pictures of Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, and loved ones. I wish I could give them answers, but I know I can't. But I did give them all of my money in my wallet as I passed by My college's Donation Containers. I put that money in thinking that I had done a good thing.

Now Imagine my shock when I found out that the Religous Right (and other groups) are trying to dictate that some famlies of those victims don't deserve that money simply because they're Gay.

This goes against everything that America symbolizes, and is discrimination. It undermines the Constitution and Mocks the BIll of Rights. In this time of New Found Patriotism, if such a thing is allowed to occur, Then I am truly Disapointed in my country.

Please do not destroy my Love of This Country, and all that it is supposed to symbolize.

Sincerely,
Individual Comment
