Victim's Compensation
Kenneth L. Zwick, Director
Office of Management Programs, Civil Division
U.S. Department of Justice
Dear Mr. Zwick:
I am writing in response to the Justice Department's request for comments
regarding the upcoming regulations for implementing and administering the
"September 11 Victim Compensation Fund."
I encourage the Department to include in these regulations assurances that
compensation will be available to all victims of the attack, including those
gay and lesbian partners in committed relationships and the non-biological
children of gay and lesbian victims.
It is unquestionable that the devastating grief and economic losses suffered
by all the victims of the September 11 terrorist attack was traumatic. The
families of gay and lesbian victims suffered no less than other families from
this national tragedy.
At this time of national tragedy, and also at a time when the nation seems to
be uniting as in no other time, it is important that the Justice Department
take the appropriate action, as its name implies, to perform an act of
"justice" for all.
All victims, including families of gay and lesbians, should be justly
compensated.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
