Many victims of the WTC tragedy if not all, had some life insurance. For
example, Northwestern Mutual Life indicated on their web site that they have
paid out around $125,000,000 in death claims to date to about 120
policyholders. This averages out to over $1,000,000 in death benefits from
their life insurance. If this is the case I suggest that further financial
information be obtained from the claimants to see if they really need the
money. It seems the funds donated could be put to better use by being sure
those who did not have any life insurance on themselves have benefits
available to help the truly needy.
