Victims compensation fund: comment from a victim who survived
I live one block from the where the World Trade Centers were. I am still
displaced and have been living in hotels and with friends and family since.
I was home at the time of the attack and sustained lung damage and dust
damage to my home as well. I still have nightmares of what I saw and went
through. My life has been like a living hell. I know I will have to move as
I cannot imagine living there anymore although I have lived there for over
14 years and, until this incident, could not imagine living anywhere else. I
know many who were injured and who lost loved ones. I lost many friends, I
stopped counting at 25. I believe I am as much a victim of this attack as
anyone. My life will never be the same. I truly believe I am entitled to
compensation. I would not minimize or trivialize the anguish of those
who lost actual family members by saying I am entitled to the same type of
compensation. Of course I am not. But I came as close as one could possibly
be to that horrendous incident and still survive. I am a victim who lived.
If I can be of further service please do not hesitate to contact me.
