Attorney General John Ashcroft
U.S. Department of Justice
10th Street and Constitution Avenue
Washington, D.C. 20530

Dear Attorney General Ashcroft,

On September 11, many innocent people lost their lives in an act of terror that forever impacted this nation. It is important that we not forget them, and that has already been evidenced by the actions of this nation's citizens and government.

In that spirit, President Bush recently signed the Air Transportation Safety and System Stabilization Act, which includes a provision called the "September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001" a government-sponsored fund for those victims who do not sue the airlines.

Recently the Department of Justice announced that it is seeking public comment on the implementation of the victim compensation fund. To truly honor and recognize all the lives lost in the September 11 tragedy, I respectfully ask that you include the most innocent of victims as "eligible victims" the unborn. It is known that at least one unborn baby died along with his or her mother during the attacks, and no doubt there were more unborn lives lost that have yet to be known. The families of those lost umborn babies are grieving too, and they deserve that loss to be recognized equally by their government.

Thank you for your time and your leadership at this time. You remain in our prayers here at Focus on the Family.

Sincerely,

Issues Response
