You ask if awards from the victim's compensation fund should be reduced by
the amount of charity a victim's family accepts? Absolutely not. Donations
are just that. Gifts and only gifts given freely by those who chose to. These
donations should have absolutely no bearing on the compensation a victim's
family receives as a result of these horrific acts. As the wife of a victim,
the effort (mental & paperwork) required to obtain these charitable funds
while trying to grieve and take care of my family and home at the same time
was incredibly difficult and painful. Please do not make obtaining victim's
compensation for the loss my husband and my children's father even more
painful by even considering the reduction of this compensation.
