To Whom It May Concern:
I believe that the gay and lesbian partners of those killed on September 11
should receive the same compensation as their straight peers from the
September 11 Victims Compensation Fund. These are people who are just as
bereft and just as victimized as those who lost spouses. Any other decision
would be a clear signal from the government that the lives of some who
perished in the tragic events of Sept. 11 are less valuable than others.
Such a sentiment is un-American and un-compassionate.
I remind you that , one of the heros who helped down flight 93
before it crashed into our nation's capital was an openly gay man.
