Victims Fund

Dear Attorney General Ashcroft,

The authorizing legislation for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001 needs to include language that clarifies that 'domestic partners' can file a claim.

My friend     lost her partner of 17 years,          , during the attack on the Pentagon on September 11th. They were loving and tremendously supportive of each other. Not only that but together, they gave much to their community. Everyone knew them on           Street: they shared their house, their time, and their money with those in need - giving generously.                    death is a tragic loss, not only to    , but to           as well.

and           had a house together, as well as the many financial obligations that couples ordinarily have. It would be an injustice to exclude from access to the financial relief this fund would give her. A simple word change to include 'domestic partners' is all that would be necessary to include her.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Regards,
