I am appalled that consideration is being given to excluding partners of gay
and lesbian heroes and victims of the 911 tragedy from receiving
compensation funds. Perhaps all gays, lesbians, their families and other
supporters should request that their contributions to any and all 911
compensation funds be returned.
It's wrong for members of our government to choose to lump all gays and
lesbians into one group based on the actions of a few by excluding partners
of these heroes from well-deserved compensation. If overlooking good works
and contributions of a whole group based on the actions of a few is the
logic applied, we should elect an entirely new government because of the
actions of those in government who have committed immoral acts.
It's time to take a step back, recognize the contributions of every
individual for what they provide and build on those contributions to
strengthen our country for the challenges going forward. Please, it's time
to apply common sense!
