Re: Denial of benefits to families of gay/lesbian victims
I am writing to protest the extraordinary injustice of your decision to deny benefits to the families of gay and lesbian victims of the 9/11 attacks. The terrorists did not discriminate; they sought to destroy two towers and a Pentagon full of Americans and their allies, not just the "heterosexual" inhabitants.
In other words, they saw us as one people--how tragic, how grossly unpatriotic, that our own government and charities, the same agencies we ALL fund with our tax dollars and our donations, do not.
Seems the gays and lesbians killed on September 11--and their families--are victims not once, but twice.
If you are going to discriminate, please be so good as to let people know BEFORE they donate--I can't tell you how many gay and lesbian Americans I know who gave money to 9/11 charities, assuming the money would be distributed fairly. We all feel cheated now--and not by the terrorists, but by our own government and institutions.
Shame on you all,
