9/11 Justice for Gays
Dear President Bush,
I am extremely angry and saddened by the position taken by the Justice
Department regarding victim compensation for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender persons who died during the events of September 11th.
Kenneth Feinberg, the head of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund,
has stated that for all intents and purposes the domestic partners and
children of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons who died on
9/11 will not be compensated in the same manner as the partners (spouses)
and children of heterosexual persons who died in the events of that tragic
day.
On this, the six-month, anniversary of that terrible day, I respectively
urge you and your administration to do the just and humane thing: fully
compensate the families of all victims in the same manner, regardless of
their sexual orientation or gender identity. Do not engage in a blatant act
of discrimination and injustice. Do not increase the pain and suffering
people have already suffered. You are the President and leader of ALL
American's.
My life and the work of our organization is completely devoted to achieving
full and complete rights for all American's regardless of race, ethnicity,
disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Respectively,
