survivor benefits appeal
My name is . I am a resident of Sioux Falls, SD. I have read
that for domestic partners of gay men and women who have died in the
September 11 tragedy, compensation may not be available. As a sister of a
lesbian with a life partner, I am writing to register my dismay at such
discrimination. While states may not recognize partners in unmarried
domestic relationships, the fund can. I encourage you to follow the
spirit, not the letter, of the law. Brave men and women died for our
country in a moment of tragedy. If we can include unborn children and
alien residents in our compensation, we can include in that compensation
the loving partners of gay men and women who have sacrificed their lives in
this time of national crisis.
I urge you to make this change a reality. A hero is a hero. Please honor
the memories of all these brave individuals by refusing to discriminate
against a few of them.
Respectfully,
