9/11 Fund is discriminating against Gays

Sir or Madam:

This story has been passed along to me, and I must emphatically add my name to the list of people who think it an outrage that gays are being excluded from benefits of the 9/11 fund. It is really counter to what we claim our stand to be as a country in this war, and is not justified by Mr.Feinberg's facile evasion and downright hiding behind state law. It is not a justifiable position, legally or ethically, and I must protest strongly the policy decision that has been made. And it is just that - a policy decision that has been made to explicitly exclude a group that is not popular with decision makers. To support this policy certainly gives the strong impression that the President and Congress are adjudicating in a manner that is hypocrital in the extreme.

I can only hope that either I am misinformed as to how benefits are actually being paid, or that something is being done to resolve this terrible injustice. And one more thing: I would strongly recommend the immediate replacement of Mr. Feinberg with someone in possession of more political savvy and sensitivity.

Best regards,
