benefits
To whom it may concern,
I just wanted to voice my disappointment that same-sex partners are not
going to benefit from the victim compensation fund. When one of the heroes
of September 11th was gay, (
) it becomes even more tragic. I
realize that you have stated that you are following the laws on the books in
each state. But the fund is making exceptions for illegal immigrants and
others. You are giving benefits to unborn children and other extended
family members. How tragic that you will not honor the relationships that
existed with same sex partners. Apparently our patriotism is not quite on
the same level with those who "choose" to be heterosexual. I know that if
my "domestic partner" suddenly died, I would lose the house we bought
together and the cars we own together. How is this loss any different that
the losses of heterosexual couples? I am sorry that you cannot see this
injustice, and even more sorry that the losses of gay Americans devastated
by September 11th will continue to go ignored. I am appalled.
Sincerely,
