911 Fund: Attention Mr. Kenneth Feinberg
Dear Mr. Feinberg:
I am appalled to learn that the victims relief program you administer includes everyone under its purview except gay and lesbian American citizens. How dare you discriminate in such a blatantly hateful way.
Even if had not been among those who save the US Capital from another air assault, even if he were simply sitting on that plane as a frightened passenger, he and any family he left behind deserve to be compensated in exactly the same fashion as illegal aliens and heterosexual American citizens. I know of at least one gay man and his son who died on those planes; I believe he left a loving partner behind. Why is he any different than someone who came to this country illegally to make a better life for him or herself and their family?
Your decision and your comments on Meet the Press have made a mockery of fairness and respect; you should be ashamed of yourself. There is absolutely no reason that each and every person and each and every FAMILY of a victim of 911 should not be compensated equally and fairly.
If you think your blatantly hateful prejudice has gone unnoticed, think again. If you condemn those killers who stole the lives of so many Americans as acting out of hate, how, then, do you distinguish your behavior toward innocent American citizens? I believe your choice to exclude gay Americans to have been motivated by hatred . . . just as the terrorists' behavior was.
I hope you cannot live comfortably with your decision. I urge you to change the current policy to reflect true compassion and respect for all Americans.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
