Non-compensation for gay and lesbian partners
Dear 9-11 Fund,
I am outraged that partners of gay and lesbian people who lost
their lives in the 9-11 attacks are not being allowed to
receive money because of their sexual preference. I know that
one argument is that "we are following the state law". I feel
this should not even be considered. If the government is
looking the other way for illegal immigrants then how can it
not do the same here? Just because someone has a different
sexual preference doesn't make them any different than the
rest of us. They work hard, pay taxes and make contributions
to society. They, just like all the other victims of 9-11,
have suffered. They are no different. They should not be
treated differently. They must be allowed to receive a check
like everyone else. Thank you.
Sincerely,
