Gay partners should get funds too
Dear Mr. Feinberg,
I believe that the domestic partners of the gay people who died in the
September 11 attacks should be eligible for application to the Victims
Compensation Fund. That they are being excluded from doing so is
exceptionally lame given that a gay man, , helped to save the U.S. Capitol from the kind of attack visited upon the World Trade Center
and the Pentagon. Your excuse that state law prevents you from making
the funds available is unacceptable in light of the fact that people whom
the INS would say are in the country "illegally" are being allowed to
request compensation from the fund. When this country declared its
independence in 1776, it asserted a collective national belief that "all
men are created equal." You have an obligation to manifest that ideal in
the execution of your policy, and you're failing to do so.
