Protest of DOJ Decision on Beneficiaries of 9/11 Funds

Dear Mr. President, et al:

I am extremely disappointed in the Federal government's decisions on which survivors of those tragically murdered on September 11th will receive grants from the government.

To ignore the gay partners of men and women killed is not justice, nor is it compassionate. Men and women love other men and women and share their lives, their finances and their homes with them. They share the same grief of those who were legally married. They also share the same financial hardships associated with this loss. Mortgages need to be paid, apartment rents, car payments, etc.

It is a shame that in the United States we look to the majority opinions on this (e.g., state law) rather than protecting the minorities. I do understand that spouses of illegal aliens will be included in the funds. What does this take place and yet others, only because they are gay and only because they have no legal status are excluded?

September 11th was truly a national tragedy, why compound it with uncaring and unjust decisions and actions?

I hope you will reconsider your decision. Please do.

Sincerely,

Individual Comment
