Gay couple compensation
Dear Sirs:
I am a gay man who has had a 12 year relationship with a fine and caring
partner. If something were to happen to him, in addition to any personal and
emotional loss, I would have a financial loss, because as in the traditional
family situation, our lives have become intertwined in all ways. We own a
home together, pay our bills together, and rely on one another for the times
that are difficult as well as the times that are not.
I understand that among the victims of the 9/11 tragedy there were gay people
in circumstances like mine. It would be a travesty if the loved ones of
these people are ignored in the national effort to heal the wounds of that
horrible event. I contributed money to the fire fighters' families who had
succumbed in the disatrous collapse of the twin towers. Please don't make me
regret that contribution by petty and small minded treatment of the gay
victims. There are bound to be few of these couples, but treat them with the
same regard you would the other family members.
Sincerely,
