Discrimination is Un-American
To Whom It May Concern,
In recent interviews, the head of the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund has made clear that the partners of gay and lesbian heroes of September 11 will not necessarily receive the same benefits as the spouses of heterosexual victims of the horrible terror attacks.
However, it is my understanding that even fetuses and illegal aliens will be receiving benefits under this fund. It is also my understanding that you have promised to overlook federal law and NOT arrest the families of illegal aliens or penalize the companies that hired them. Why then, are we penalizing the families of the many gay and lesbian heroes of September 11th? If you refuse to discriminate against illegal aliens, why must you discriminate against the heroes of our own country? How far does your seeming foresight go?
I am writing this letter to encourage you as Americans to realize that September 11th was a day of terror in this nation, but also one of unity. Do not discriminate against fellow heroes because of their personal lives.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
