Discrimination against gays
Mr Feinberg,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my outrage at the
discrimination displayed by the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund
against the gay and lesbian heroes of the tradegy that befell our nation. You
claim that you cannot go against state laws, and that equal compensation to
ALL victims would do just that. Yet, you have no problem bending United States
laws in your compensations for illegal alien. I fail to see the justice in
this. How can you place certain victims into second-class status just because
of their sexuality? Does it make them lesser heroes? September 11th brought
the nation together as one. Differences did not matter any more. We are all
Americans. Yet, through this discrimination you dividing this country once
again. You are telling the people of this great nation that yes, you are all
Americans, except for this one group - they are lesser Americans and do not
deserve the same treatment. This should be a time where we look beyond race,
gender, class, and sexual orientation. I am ashamed to have giving my money to
this fund. If there were a way, I would take it back. Through the
discrimination against gays and lesbians, the September 11th Victim
Compensation Fund has become decidedly anti-American. The discrimination you
show will only cause more discrimination, which will lead to more hatred. If
you call yourself American, you will stop tearing this country apart.
Sincerely,
