Do not discrimanate
In recent interviews, the head of the September 11 Victim
Compensation Fund (a fund created by Congress to help the
families of those who died on September 11) has made clear
that the partners of gay and lesbian heroes of September 11
will not necessarily receive the same benefits as the spouses
of heterosexual victims of the horrible terror attacks.
I did not see this interview. However, if the newspaper is giving a good
report of what was said I wish to register my complaint about the way this
is being done.
This is after all the United States of America and last time I looked we do
not support discrimination from Government officials. Actually we do not
support much discrimination from anyone. It is against the law to
discriminate even though Sexual Orientation is not specifically listed there
are enough things that are listed so that it is quite clear that
discrimination is not one of the things this country stands for.
If you are distributing tax money it is even more important that there be no
discrimination. We all pay taxes and should be sure that we all get what is
coming to us.
