Families of 9/11 heroes

To whom it may concern:

It has just come to my attention that partners of gay and lesbian heroes who died on 9/11 are being discriminated against when it comes to compensation for the loss of their loved ones. Does this mean that their loss is not as great as with a heterosexual couple? Or that the need is less? Or that their heroic deeds were tarnished? I'm sure that when firemen helped the injured from the WTC they did not question whether they were gay before accepting their help. Homosexuals and heterosexuals alike died valiently that day as they went about their daily tasks, and partners deserve equal compensation.

Sincerely,
