Sep 11 fund: A shameful ruling
It is unconscionable to me, at a time when the administration is calling for
unity among Americans, that President Bush and Mr. Feinberg would countenance
a ruling that basically leaves the families of Septembere 11 many gay victims
out in the cold.
Gay people were among the most visible heroes of that dark day, so to learn
that their partners of up to 30 years are being denied the compensation that
the administration is even granting to the families of illegal aliens is a
shocking and deeply cynical maneuver by an administration that seems more
interested in throwing a bone to its right wing than in protecting the rights
of tax-paying gay and lesbian citizens. This is shameful, and un-American,
and runs counter to the very values that we are supposedly fighting to defend.
