"Victim Payment" Plans

You have no justification for not accomodating partners, be they of the same or of differing sexes, just because of a sexual orientation or lack of paper document denoting their dedication to each other.

Normally federal money dispensers do so without relying on state laws, many based on religious purposes, in order to avoid both electoral and judicial confrontations. Blaming the lack of "gay benefits" on the lack of state support is, in reality, blaming the Bible (et al) and the religious origins of the laws in those states.

Our United States was founded on a body of law. Part of that law proclaims the separation of Federal and State governments, venues, powers, and so forth. You are disbursing FEDERAL FUNDS, not drawn from State budgets; therefore, under Federal Law, there can be no sensible, truthfull grounds for denial -- only the 'play politics' denial that loses elections. People are notorious for not voting for people who kick dogs, animals or those perceived to be of a different class.

Your attention is drawn to the commentary "9/11 Fund To Discriminate Against Gays" Commentary, by             , wherein "Kenneth Feinberg, the head of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (a fund created by Congress and run by the Department of Justice)," claims the applicable states' laws are being observed. Oh? Since when has our federal government seen fit to parallel state laws?

If Mr. Feinberg is to be taken seriously, then the DOJ will stop its harassment of Oregon doctors who are obeying state law by providing for painless suicide. If Mr. Feinberg is to be taken seriously, then the DOJ will stop hasseling marajuana users in the 11 or so states where MJ is legal medicine.

On the other hand, if Mr. Feinberg is LYING, then the DOJ spokesperson is saying "We will play God. We may deny there is a God, daily except Sunday mornings; but that's okay, we'll play God's Hand as we see fit."

The next step, of course, is the ballot box; if the GOP allows this to proceed, they will be handing both House and Senate msajorities to the Democrats on a gold platter. It's very difficult to vote for people who oppose one's own standards.
