September 11 Victims' Compensation Fund
I have e-mailed the following to the President, John Ashcroft, Edward Kennedy and John McCain. The attached was forwarded to me by two gay men who are a much-loved and great source of pride in my life.
When I first read it, I was simply left speechless. Until I received this, I had not known anything about this despicable prejudice. It is a cruel and un-American way of dealing with this fund. What makes anyone think that just because a person is gay or lesbian, they don't have the same feelings and emotions as anyone else. This is saying that they are non-persons just because of their sexual preference. When will it stop? First it was the American Indian, then Jews, the Irish and blacks and anyone that someone else in power deems to be a lesser human being then himself.
What is even more maddening about this situation is the fact that illegal aliens who aren't American citizens and who are in the U.S. in violation of federal law, will receive benefits. What is wrong with this picture? Using the individual states' laws is simply an excuse not to deal with the situation. Why should state laws prevail when federal law covers illegal aliens? There is no rhyme or reason to any of this.
I am so proud of John McCain and his eulogy of   . Mr. McCain knows right from wrong and is man enough to stand up and say so. I want him to know that I voted for him in the last election even though he wasn't on the ballot!
I implore all of you who are in power over this September 11 Victim's Compensation fund to rethink your views and do the right thing. If you don't, then the terrorists have just earned another feather in their caps by tearing our society apart.
