compensation for same-sex partners

Greetings,

The long-term live-in partners, whether same sex or opposite sex, of those who were killed on 9/11 should be compensated in the same way married couples are. I understand that certain federal laws are being overlooked so that illegal aliens who are spouses or children of the deceased can be compensated. I believe that the fact that our laws don't currently allow gay or lesbian couples to legally marry should also be overlooked so that remaining partners may receive the compensation to which they are ethically entitled.

By the way, I am not a friend or relative of anyone who would benefit from my suggestion. My second cousin died in the WTC, but she was married.

Thank you for your consideration,
