I have just received an email stating that gay partners/spouses/families of
victims of 9/11 will receive no compensation for the tragic loss of their
loved ones, simply because they are gay. This seems grossly unfair,
especially in the light of the fact that illegal aliens and the unborn
children of any fatalities of that day will be compensated. A family unit
is still a family unit, even if those same people are all the same sex. It
is time to set aside bigotry and prejudice and look at the greater good for
our country and the people who live within its bounds.
This type of bias and small-mindedness makes us look backward, bigoted and
unintelligent to the rest of the world. Why would the rest of the world
leaders want to work with a nation of backward primitives who have no desire
to address anything different and/or forward thinking. No wonder we are a
prime target. We can't even come together as the diverse families that make
up our nation. It is the same as bombing another country for not having the
same religious beliefs as the bomber. Both Hitler and bin Laden would be
proud! Are we not reflecting their tragic closed mindedness by doing the
same ourselves? What a shame! We should know better by now! Perhaps
people who feel this way should take a good look at themselves to see where
their fear comes from, and then take a look at the great leaders and heroes
of our world. Lifesavers come in every color, as the saying goes...
