9/11 Benefits for Gay Americans
As a gay man and U.S. citizen who works in New York City, I am apalled
at the recently published position of the September 11 Victim
Compensation Fund.
My understanding is that the Fund has decided to selectively alter U.S.
law. The Fund is recognizing the rights of unborn fetuses and illegal
aliens in a manner contrary to the laws of the various states and the
federel government to get benefits to those who lost loved ones on 9/11.
However, the Fund finds itself bound by the laws of the various states
when asked to compensate same-sex partners of the victims of 9/11, many
of whom are nationally revered as heros, and rightly so.
This "selective acknowledgement" of the law is discrimination, pure and
simple. Shame on you for dishonoring noble Americans in this petty
manner. Shame on you.
