Same-Sex Compensation
To whom it may concern--
I am outraged that gay and lesbian partners of those who died on September 11 are not automatically going to receive the same benefits as heterosexual spouses. The idea that the names of   have to be singled out as heroes is a shame. The memory of every single gay and lesbian person who died in those attacks should be respected regardless of having a piece of paper that says they are married to someone. If you decide not to offer compensation to these families I would like a member of you department to please deliver the message in-person to the partners and children of those who lost their lives. Despite enduring challenges most people will never face (bigotry, isolation, violence), even in death these brave Americans are treated as second-class citizens.
I truly hope you wil reconsider this decision and honor the memories of each and every one of these brave Americans.
Sincerely,
