Sept. 11th Fund
Dear September 11th Fund Administrators,
I am writing because I am outraged that gay and lesbian partners of those who died on September 11 are not automatically going to receive the same benefits as everyone else. I am not gay, or lesbian, but I am American. and find this decision deplorable.
Kenneth Feinberg's winded answer on Meet the Press is just ridiculous. He "cannot get into a position of second-guessing how a particular state treats same-sex partners, domestic live-ins, etc."? He then goes on to say, "what does your state law say about who is eligible? If your state law makes you eligible, I will honor state law. If it doesn't, I go with the state". I find these statements very confusing. Why doesn't that apply to illegal aliens and the companies that employ them? Aren't we overlooking our own laws in those instances (commendably I might add)? Under normal circumstances does each state say illegal aliens can work here, live here without being deported, and the companies that hire them will not be penalized? I doubt it. Yet, it seems Mr. Feinberg has no problem second-guessing in those instances.
In memory of our heroes   , and so many more... I demand that you do the right thing with my donation, and the donations of all people that intended to help "all" victims.
Thank you,
