Don't screw the gay people
I took a look at the comments to your "Final Rule" and I am struck by how
many people have voiced extreme displeasure at you plan to compensate
everyone who lost a loved one - even illegal aliens - but not gay people.
Given the vast number of comments in favor of giving gay survivors
compensation (not dependent on state law), I hope you don't hide behind "we
got lots of comments on both sides" in disenfranchising a group of Americans
who pay taxes and who lost the central figures in their lives.
It is pretty apparent where the sentiments of the American people lie on
this issue - one need only browse the public comments on the DOJ's website
to see that 99% of the commentors DO NOT WANT YOU TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST
ANYONE, even the dreaded homosexual. I hope you reconsider your hateful
position.
