To whom it may concern,

We are quite surprised to read and hear that some of the victims of 9-11 will be treated differently than others, more specifically that, as a group, the survivors of gay and lesbian relationships will not be seen as "real" spouses. We hope that what we have read is not true.

How can people in a gay relationship be expected to show "evidence" of their committed relationship when almost every state does not allow for legalized recognition of same-gender relationships. Thankfully we are citizens of California where we have registered as domestic partners. We wonder if that "legal" recognition would be enough to show your agency that we are indeed as "married" as possible at this time in American history?

Please reconsider your (possible) actions and consider on possibly a case-by-case basis the relationships of the victims who were/are in the gay community.

Sincerely,
