We are outraged that gay and lesbian partners of those who died on September
11 are not going to receive the same benefits as heterosexual spouses.
and so many more men and
women were heroes of 9-11 leaving behind loved ones dependent upon them for
love and support. Many of the heroes were lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and
transgendered - heroes all. No different than the straight fallen heroes of
that horrific day. Please do not dishonor they memory by denying benefits
to their loved ones just as you would no deny benefits to the loved ones of
the straight heroes. If that day taught us anything it was that no
discrimination was made in selecting those to perish. No discrimination
should be made in selecting those to honor or those loved ones who are
deserving and in need of support regardless of sexual orientation or gender
presentation.
We are outraged that this discrimination is even under consideration. You
must do the right thing and treat all equally.
