Discrimination is Un-American

Mr. Feinberg and like-minded others at the 9/11 Fund, I am writing to express my deep and profound disappointment and outrage at your recent statements regarding the 9/11 Fund's position on gay and lesbian victims and their partners and families. You suggest that support for gay and lesbian partners should depend on state laws because of a fear of "local battles and lawsuits." Particularly given your position on the inclusion of illegal aliens, how can you not see how hypocritical this is? On an emotional level, these events have triggered an incredible sense of coming together to help one another. Offering gay and lesbian partners equal assistance is not making a political stand or promoting an agenda. It's about helping ALL individuals who have endured loss and who need support. So many heroes from that day are gay and lesbian citizens. Many of them have been profiled in the news as truly symbolic of what it is to be a "good American." Why are you now making a conscious choice to lessen their memory and make them second-class citizens?
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
