Justice and equality for ALL
To Whom It May Concern,
The terrorist actions of September 11th have left an indelible mark on the
American psyche. How we react to these acts of hate and war will define
our legacy for generations to come. That said, I am appalled at our
government's stance with regard to survivors of this tragedy. While
benefits are being extended to citizen, non-citizens, and even illegal
aliens, gays and lesbians are effectively excluded from support. We are
NOT second-class citizens and there is evidence that were it not for one
particularly BIG gay hero (
), another plane-bomb would have
struck killing thousands more Americans. In an age where it is
unacceptable to make jokes dealing with the race, gender, or religious
convictions of people, how can sexual orientation remain a valid
target. We are all human beings; I would have hoped that the events of
9/11 would have convinced all Americans that all people deserve the same
rights. If not, then what are we fighting for anyway? Only UNITED do we
stand.
Sincerely,
