Special Master Kenneth R. Feinberg
September 11th Victim Compensation Fund
U.S. Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20530
Dear Mr. Feinberg:
I am writing on behalf of the surviving families of victims of the September 11 terrorist
attacks. Please ensure fair treatment of all families, including children and significant
others of low-income workers and gay and lesbian victims.
It seems particularly unfair to me that the families of low-income workers might receive
far less in compensation than families of those who earned salaries in the six figures.
Please ensure that a high minimum compensation level is set to lessen the disparities
between the poor and the rich. The taxpayer money should not go primarily to those who
were already well off financially in the first place.
Please also ensure that gays and lesbians are recognized as grieving survivors as well,
with full rights to equal compensation for this tragic loss of life. The Red Cross and the
State of New York have already stated they will not discriminate against gay and lesbian
families. The Department of Justice should be equally just.
Thank you for your careful consideration of these matters. I look forward to hearing from
you.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
