I am outraged by the proposed program announced last week.
I am a Senior Vice President with one of the largest financial institutions
in the US. My husband was killed on the 92nd floor of One WTC, and was
making in excess of the $240,000 cap.
We lived a prudent life. I sacrificed vacations and other luxaries to ensure
that, in the event of a catastrophe, my family would be able to sustain our
way of life. I made sure that we had the money to pay our annual premiums
for Life and other types of insurance.
Now my husband has been MURDERED, and by my calculations, I will owe YOU
money.
I understand why you may want to subtract insurance money paid to survivors
by the company they worked for (i.e. my husband worked Carr Futures.) But
why should I, and others like me, be penelized for being responsible and
managing my affairs properly. It seems that a woman who stayed home to raise
and enjoy her children while they were young will fair better than a working
mother who had a lot of life insurance.
When all is said and done, if this program is maintained without change, the
only party liable for this tragedy is ME. I have life insurance that I paid
for which in turn, is bailing out the airlines, Port Authority, Logan
Airport, the Security Co. and quite frankly, the US Government, who had
adequate warning about this plot.
I would greatly appreciate a reply or I can be called at 561-742-9711.
