Victim Compensation Fund

Dear Mr. Feinberg,

My girlfriend lost her husband,      , in the terrorist attacks of September 11.      leaves behind his wife and his infant son, now six months old. Under the current tables of the Victim Compensation Fund,      wife and son will receive LITTLE OR NO compensation as a result of 'collateral offsets' such as life insurance, and other death benefits.

The financial limitations placed on the compensation regulations do a terrible disservice to the families of the victims of September 11. We have an obligation to help these families, to support them and assist them in every way imaginable. I would urge you to change the current regulations of the Victim Compensation Fund and:

1. ELIMINATE COLLATERAL OFFSETS to the compensation fund from life insurance proceeds and other death benefits.

2. Allow the families to be FULLY INFORMED of what their compensation will be in writing PRIOR TO officially waving their right to litigate.

3. INCREASE NON-ECONOMIC DAMAGES, taking into consideration the immeasurable pain and suffering endured by the victims and their families.

4. Use UP-TO-DATE NEW YORK STATISTICS in calculating the victim's potential lifetime earnings.

I urge you to carefully reconsider these items and to adjust the Victim Compensation Fund guidelines so that all the families may receive a substantial measure of financial support and comfort.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Individual Comment
