Fiancee's concern

I lost my fiance in Tower 1 of the WTC on September 11th. We were in a committed relationship for almost 6 years and shared an apartment in NYC for 2 1/2 years, along with our dog. Our wedding date was set for October 19th, 2001.

There are many other fiance/es left suddenly left behind from this tragedy. We all seem to be feeling less significant than we truly were in the victim's life. Why is the intent and plan to marry seemingly viewed as the same as being 'single'? It is not, and being left out has added to the hurt and loss. We should not be penalized by employers, insurance companies, or other compensation sources for not yet being legally married. It is a form of discrimination.

I would like to see the circumstances of fiance/es, whether they were living together yet or not, more fairly recognized in the compensation fund and general laws.

Thank you for reviewing and considering my comment.
