Somalia: ICITAP and UNODC Conduct Joint Visit to Somali Police Force Training Academy
On July 26, 2021, the ICITAP-Somalia Mission Advisor and the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Director conducted a joint visit to the Somali Police Force (SPF) Training Academy. During the visit, an extensive tour of the Academy was conducted including newly refurbished classrooms, student barracks, and an alternate power generator facility. The refurbishment project was sponsored by UNODC with funding provided by the U.S. State Department, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The visit then stopped into a just-concluded training course being delivered by ICITAP mentors pertaining to terrorist crime scene security and control. In addition to the Academy tour, a meeting was hosted by senior SPF and Academy officials to discuss and coordinate current and future assistance by international and US donors. The joint ICITAP-UN visit demonstrated the strong cooperation and coordination of resources, training curricula, and other sustainability projects shared between multiple implementers working with the SPF. In Somalia, ICITAP works with the support of the Department of State, Bureau of Counterterrorism and the FBI.
