Dominican Republic: ICITAP-Supported National Police Recognized for Community Engagement

On January 27, the ICITAP-Dominican Republic mission reported that the Dominican National Police (DNP) received recognition for "Best Positioning in the Citizen Security Sector," for the DNP’s use of information and communications technologies index.  The recognition stems from the DNP’s commitment, through significant ICITAP support and mentorship, to foster better relationships with the community by utilizing a digital platform to share timely and transparent information. This has been achieved by implementing a Strategic Communications Model supported by a conceptual vision that embraces community engagement. The recognition was awarded by the Presidential Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OPTIC), for improving, ICT management and controls, infrastructure, web presence, social network management, electronic participation, availability, and development of online services in order to strengthen the internal structure of the Institution, directly impacting the efficiency and transparency of the services provided to citizens. In the Dominican Republic, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
