ICITAP Facilitates Stronger Women’s Leadership in Police Forces Worldwide

From January 27-February 2, ICITAP supported delegations of women police leaders from Macedonia, Mali, and Serbia to participate in the first Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) training of 2019. The training curriculum was intense and specifically focused on a variety of topics including leadership science on leading people, groups, and change, as well as leading ethical, fair, and impartial organizations. The final segment of the training was centered on having the attendees develop a strategic plan for their career with assistance from WLI’s faculty. The training included topics related to Learning Leadership; Leading High Performing Individuals, Organizations and Teams; Understanding Motivation, Human Bias, and Followership; Leading Change; and Art and Science of Effective Communication. The ICITAP-sponsored delegations found this training extremely useful, committing to take the most relevant ideas back to their police organizations. Per WLI, women in law enforcement face a number of challenges as they become leaders in law enforcement. WLI is an entrepreneurial effort to create an academically rigorous training program which recognizes the unique challenges and opportunities women face as they rise through leadership positions in public safety organizations in the U.S. and around the world.
