Mali: ICITAP Continues Strengthening Capacity to Properly Vet National Police Officers

On February 22, a total of 139 officers of the Direction Générale de la Police Nationale (PN) du Mali, who had just completed a week-long ICITAP Background Investigators training, attended their graduation ceremony at the Ecole Nacional de la Police in Bamako.  The February 22 graduating class, made up of Commissaires and Lieutenants, were trained by alumni from ICITAP’s October 2018 Background Investigations (BI) Training.  From October 15 to 18, 2018, ICITAP police trainers conducted a train-the-trainer training for members of the PN at the Ecole Nacional de la Police. This training is part of ICITAP’s objective in Mali of improving police personnel management policies in the areas of recruitment and career management. During the October 2018 training, 23 members of the PN were trained as background investigators and subsequently trained as trainers, who would in turn bring the training to members of their own ranks in February 2019. This effort is conducted in partnership with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
