Ukraine: ICITAP Mentorship Program Expands in Western Ukraine

On March 6, 2020, forty-nine patrol police officers from western Ukraine completed a five-day training to become mentors in the Mentorship Training Officer Program (MTOP). During the forty-hour training in Lviv, two ICITAP instructors taught the officers skills they will use to guide and groom newly graduated officers from the Patrol Police Academy as they transition to working in the field. The participants learned about the model and methodology of field training, journaling, and reporting, and they actively participated in discussions and analyzing case studies. This course is the fifth iteration of the MTOP with the Ukrainian Patrol Police. A total of 156 mentors from across Ukraine have been trained since the program began last year, and those mentors have taught or are currently training 160 officers. In Ukraine, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
