Battling Hate Crimes: Law Enforcement and Community Perspectives

On February 8, AUSAs from the Office participated in a webinar on Battling Hate Crimes: Law Enforcement and Community Perspectives sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar Association. The virtual program included a panel of law enforcement officials and community leaders who discussed the implementation of meaningful and impactful strategies for combating the growing spate of hate crimes across the country which has been fueled by social media and the rise of extremist groups promoting violent acts based on race, religion or ethnicity.

Distinguished Speakers included AUSA Mack Jenkins, Chief of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section, AUSA Veronica Dragalin also of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section, John Chang from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Hate Crimes Unit, Special Agent Matthew Grimes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Los Angeles Regional Director Jeffrey I. Abrams from the Anti-Defamation League, and Deputy Chief Blake Chow from the Los Angeles Police Department. The program was moderated by Jason Liang, Past President of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association.
