HOPE Initiative – Prevention and Education Presentation at Valencia Fire Station

On Sep. 15th, 2017, USAO and DEA representatives presented “Roll The Dice” for the Valencia County Healthy Transitions Program youth members. “Roll the Dice” follows the story of a fictional student as he makes choices on substance use and abuse, and looks at the consequences of those actions. The presentation encourages students to think critically and to begin a discussion with the presenters, their counselors, and even their parents on issues surrounding drug use.  Healthy Transitions is a CYFD grant-funded program deisgned to improve access to treatment and support services for youth and young adults ages 16—26 that either have, or are at risk of developing a serious mental health condition. This age group is at high risk of developing mental illness, a substance use disorder, and committing suicide. At the same time, this group is the least likely to seek help. As a result, many “fall through the cracks,” and do not receive what they need to assume safe and productive adult roles and responsibilities.
